It is characterized by fever chills severe headache muscle pain and dizziness. Chikungunya disease is very rarely fatal but the virus sometimes causes serious complications mostly in older people babies or people with underlying medical. Measurable swelling was observed between 5 and 8 days after virus inoculation while joint pain and swelling in infected patients can be observed for weeks to months and may even persist for years in some individuals Couturier et al 2012.
