Baby Legs Bent
3 to 6 months.
Baby legs bent. If the feet stay together but the knees do not meet and the lower leg bends outwards then the baby has bowlegs. In this position children sit on their bottoms with their knees bent feet tucked under and their legs splayed out to the side in what looks like a W. There is no sufficient room in the womb for the baby to stretch its legs.
In the womb the legs are in a fetal position with the legs bent up across each other. Most of them are nothing to worry about and just part of their development. In previous posts we discussed other benefits.
Most children have bowed legs because of the foetal position but it normally corrects itself over time. There are several options. As children develop better muscles in their legs and learn how to stand and walk their legs straighten out.
Bow legs before the age of 18 months it is very common for children have a small gap between their knees and ankles when they stand. One or both of the legs may curve outward to cause this gap which in turn gives a trademark bowed appearance when walking. A child with bowed legs has a distinct space between his or her lower legs and knees.
The bend is towards the front of the leg and occurs due to the unusual positioning of the foot in the womb. Is it OK for baby to sleep with legs bent. Bowlegs refers to a condition in which a persons legs appear bowed bent outward even when the ankles are together.
If baby reaches two years of age and still has bowed legs it may be of concern. Sudden straightening of the legs to a standing position can loosen the joints and damage the soft cartilage of the socket. Is it normal for babies to keep legs bent.
